Various HNW artists - Tera Antiqu Compilation Volume #1 [Terr-Antiqu - 2014]Here's a recent HWN/static noise compilation from a new British based label that’s set up to focus in on all things ‘wall’ like. The release comes in the form of a CDR, and takes in nine slices of wall-craft that run between just under the seven minute mark, to nearing the 12 minute mark. The unlabeled CDR comes in a plastic slip sleeve, and this features a black & white computer printed cover, and a fold out red paper inlay that takes in the track listings. And seemingly the release takes in walled-noise artists from all around the world. For the most part the release flows well with a nice variation between track to track- so clearly the running order of the release has been given thought & planed out first (which you certainly can’t say for all HNW compilations). Also as each tracks running time is not long(by HNW standards), you get chance to get into the ‘wall’, but also the less effective moments never over stay their welcome. I won’t go into a track by track review here; but instead I’ll just pick out a few of my stand-out moments, and they come in the form of: Problem Anderer Leute ‘s “Stalactites” which brings together a dense map of shedding ‘n’ feasting electro meat-ness, with slowly oscillating high pitched tonal sourness. Vulthoom’s “The Mad Faceless God, Howls Blindly In The Darkness To The Piping Of Two Amorphous Idiot Flute-Players”, that nicely mangers to mixers together pummelling dense weight with shrill grating-ness , as it blends together condensed & locked down bass bound juddering, with searing fan belt like slow sweeps. Or the end-less tunnelling & thick weight of Angel Of Mercy's "No Thought", which feds together continual worming 'n' churning bass juddering, with seared mid-ranged jittering to great effect. So in summing up it’s great to see a new & mostly consistent HNW compilation appearing on the scene, as sadly these have been few & far between over the last few years. As this disc is titled Tera Antiqu Compilation Volume #1 , I’m hoping Terr-Antiqu have some more volumes planed…to find out more about this release, and the labels other releases head over to here Roger Batty
