Verde - Petoviha [Karkia Mistika ý/ Nekorekords ý/Untergeschoss ý - 2013]From late 2013 Petoviha is the latest release from this atmospheric & genre blurring instrumental project from Finland. Verde is the solo project of Mika Rintala, who’s worked with the likes of Circle and many other underground Finnish bands- the projects been active since 1998, putting out around twenty releases(taking in two collaborations with Circle). The album takes in twelve tracks in all, with a total running time of just over seventy mintues. Each of the twelve tracks run between three–to-ten minute mark, and each mixes together a selection of sonic elements such as: spacey synth scapeing, minimal electronics ‘n’ beats. Often mellow & mysterious jazzy drifts, electro ambience, slurred sound-tracking, field recordings- such as water, birds & fishing sounds. subtle retro/ lo-fi focused noise making, folk instrumentation such as acoustic guitars ,jewel harps & swooning stringed work. And strutting to moody experimental electric guitar elements. Structure wise the tracks are often fairly lose in both there feel & construction, though they often do have fairly firm central sonic element- be it a melody, beat, or textural element. All told if you after a release that flits between a few different genres, is psychedelic, often mellow, & mostly fairly creative Petovhiha is worth checking out. Oh and I rather like the cover picture- which takes in a birds skeleton (with a glowing red eye), and a bright purple flower. Roger Batty
