Missing Girls - Brittanee Marie Drexel [Vagary Records - 2012]“Brittanee Marie Drexel” offers up a very sparse & spaced-out slice of ANW. Missing Girls is the more minimal crackling ‘n’ static bound HNW/ANW project of Swedish based Karl T of Audrey Hepburn obsessed HNW project Skönhet, & the great HNW tape label HarshFuckedForLife Records The Missing Girls project theme/concept is based around girls & female teenagers who have disappeared from around the world. This release is themed around the case of Myrtle Beach Brittanee Marie Drexel, who was a 17 year old teenage when she disappeared in 2009. The release comes in the form of a CDR which comes in a white DVD case, the cases cover just features on it’s front corner a picture of Ms Drexel eat ice cream & smiling. Inside the case along with CDR is a single card inlay that lists Ms Drexel appearance, and how she disappeared. The 1 hour & 14 minute track is built around lots of silence with short thirty second bursts of juddering then fading noise texture. The noise tone has a muffled sort-of mid-paced juddering quality to it, and it seems to be there's thirty seconds of tone each time it appears. It roughly works out that a burst of noise happens ever four to five minutes, and basically the whole track conists of switchers between long drifts of silence & the muffled noise tone. I’ve enjoyed past works by this project, and always got something from the projects often very sparse take on ANW/HNW. But I’m afraid to say, even after many plays, “Brittanee Marie Drexel” does nothing for me & frankly it’s just rather dull & boring- there’s no tension, cleverly arranged textures, or really anything redeeming about this release. All told a real disappointing, as I was very much looking forward to this as Karl T has released very little with any of his projects over the last year or so. Roger Batty
