Boar - Craft [Worthless Recordings - 2012]

“Craft” is a c14 tape that offers up four short yet  highly rewarding slices of walled noise/ textured noise from the always brutal yet creative Iowa based Boar.

The tape features two tracks per side, and first up on side one we have the just under three minutes of “Life Paused”. This track is  built around a taut  billowing mid-ranged sustained noise tone that has a nice crackle purr wrapped around it. From time to time the pitches wonder a bit, judder, or slightly shift, but mainly this track is about head drill tension. Next up on side two we have  the just under four minutes of “Your Inner Workings Are Slowing Down”, and this track is built around a thicker more industrialized  & active wall. The track’s built around a mixture of muffled ‘n’ subterranean distant judders ‘n’ rumbles which are seared & roamed over by slight reverb licked rail grating like noise tone. The whole track has quite a neat hazy yet nightmarish vibe about it.

Over onto side two, and first up we have the just under three minutes of  “Not in Tune”. This track goes all edgy ‘n’ tense again with a taut 'n' thin line of chugging ‘n’ purring noise, behind the main tone there’s this distant weird jittering & electro chewing texture that you can’t full define. As the track progresses Boar skilfully & subtle adds in a few  jittering & chopping sub-tones, as well one weary laser like swirl. And lastly we have “Hacked and Slashed”, and this goes for a more dense & meaty ‘wall’. The two & a half minute track is mainly built around a mixture of roasting ‘n’ locked juddering noise, which has this neat smaller jittering ‘n’ snapping staple like tonality running through it.  Around the two minute the track thins down to a single accelerating throbbing noise tone, which is weaved by a slicing ‘n’ chopping thinner second tone.

“Craft” shows Boar on top creative walled noise/ textured noise form. Each of the four tracks here are great & cleverly executed bits of noise making, and as a whole the c14 tape shows once again Boar as one of the most consistent & rewarding US HNW acts around today. This tape has a edition of 50 copies, so you still might get lucky & get your hands on one.
