Unearthed - Phase I [Spider Tapes - 2010]

“Phase I” finds this London based & horror obsessed HNW project offering up a C40 that presents the listener with two side long tracks of atmospheric, active, imaginative and blood curdling brutal slices of Walled noise matter.

Side ones untitled track opens with a rush of feed-back gathering then it drops into this great and shifting mass of juddering, tumbling, roasting and desending walled noise tones. It feels like you’re trying to walk over a creepy yet barren land-mass in a thunder storm, as you walk the ground  is moving and shifting with cracks opening up to the side of you and ground levels  are shifting. The tracks ‘wall’ moves in a slow to fast manner with the structural feel constantly on the move. By the second half of the twenty minute track things seem to have become lot more urgent and seared with mixture of rapid billows, batterings, violent textural lashings and accelerations added to the mixture giving one the feeling that your now in a on full on armageddon type state.

Side twos untitled track slowly edger’s in with a building roasting tone that’s under-fed by a single distant high pitched sustain. By the minute and a half mark it’s turned into a intense and searing judder that’s lead by a eerier and stretched out billow. As the track moves on Uneathered tensely and effectively pulls the ‘wall’ though shifting textural judders, battering billows and rapid textural static crunching rages. I particularly like the way he adds in quite creepy yet brutal off-pattern textural static hacks and slowed down alien beast like bays to the ‘wall’. The ‘wall’ finishers off with a great accelerated and rapidly boiling noise tone coming to the fore of the ‘wall’. This side is once more quite active, but it does dwell longer in certainly patterns and textures then the first side, it also seems to have more of a grim atmospheric 70’s disaster/ horror movie vibe somewhere deep in it’s guts too

So this is another very rewarding, well thought-out and brutally imaginative slice of active and horror tinged HNW from this great Uk project. Here’s hoping for another release soon from Unearthed, as you can always rely on this project to put alot of time and effort into what ever he puts out.
