Smrznik / Dead Body Collection - Remains [Vomit Bucket Productions - 2010]“Remains” is a split CDR album that sees theses two Baltic state based Hash Noise Wall projects boiling up each a twenty minute plus slice of their own distinct form of Wall-making. Up first is Sarajevo based Smrznik who offer up twenty two minutes of cold juddering and drilling dwell that is “Remains Of The Winter”. The tracks ‘wall’ is a deeply chilling yet highly hypotonic mixture of: refrigerating judder ‘n’ purr bass, and highly controlled jittering static textures. The refrigerating tone stays fairly locked and looped through-out the tracks length(through it does become more bass bound towards the end), but the static textures nicely shifting in an atmospheric and offend highly menacing/ brooding manner. The tracks another great example of this project highly distinctive and frost bound take on the HNW genre. The other track on offer here is from Serbian based and deranged medical opposed project Dead Body Collection and his near twenty nine minute track is wonderfully entitled “I Still Sleep With Her Remains”. This tracks ‘wall’ is built around mid-pace drilling ‘n’ caustic droning and wiring ‘n’ jittering static tones- it brings to mind a drill continually boring through pale, dead and rigormortis stiffed limbs. Like the first track the drilling/droning element stays locked, but the wiring/jittering static elements skip ‘n’ move in a very intense and atmospheric manner. The two main elements seem to really locking together in a very nasty and intense manner in the last few minutes of the track. Again this is another great track, and it nicely compliments the first track; as if bodies have been frozen to death( in track one) and now(in track two) a precise yet deranged mad-man is making many random holes in the iced corpses. So this is a very rewarding split that brings together two tracks that aptly mix together brooding brutality, grim and macabre atmospherics, and very distinctive yet unforgiving sound grain.
