A tiny cdr (3") in a tiny edition (75 copies) features one piece of a little more than twenty minutes. Nicholas Szczepanik made this to help his partner relax but eventually made him discover something about himself, as mysteriously stated in the linernotes.

For the listener this info doesn't help much to understand it but that's not necessary to appreciate what's on offer here. The piece Mi otra mitad, like on the other 3" cdr I know, A Stillness Rarely Seen, there's an ambient drone but this time it's a bit darker. Not that you'll be plunged into despondency, but there's not as much the feel of a lovely summer afternoon like on that one. This sets a more nocturnal mood, a fairly calm, rumbling lull.

Mi otra mitad reminds me of some of the 'isolationism' music that thrived for a while in the midnineties, but the more dreamy aspects, like for instance the phenomenal Clinton Street by James Plotkin or his Mosquito Veil album with Brent Gutzeit. Not that I would call it retro per se, but if you like 'ambient with an edge' I'd check this out.
