Oblong Box - 13th Floor [Public Guilt - 2008]13th Floor is a highly satisfying & morbidly atmospheric 3inc cdr from one man USA project Oblong Box. With the four tracks here sitting somewhere between blacked yet fairly active ambience, horror cinematic and slowed industrial throb 'n' dwell. The tracks are mainly built around a mixture of slow ‘n’ sinister synth textures and effectively used samples & field recordings that go from; moans ‘n’ groans, creepy sound texturing and detail ,to muffled or just heard creepy dialogue and obscure horror sci-fi film samples. With the only the last track adding in a building and roaring guitar sound into the atmospheric make-up. The tracks are all fairly simple yet very effective in their make-up with atmosphere always been the key here, with all the samples and field recording been placed with great sonic care and thought to heighten the horrifying and dread soaked air that is built in places to fever pitch.
A wonderful morbid sonic morsel of a release which really mangers to imbed a wonderful macabre, uneasy yet highly enoyble air in ones mind. But I’d advise quick action as this is ltd to a criminal 100 copies.
