Go to the Sparrow Orange website  Sparrow Orange - Hands And Knees Music [Noise Factory Records - 2002]

Aaron Boot, the man behind the electronic / post-rock project Sparrow Orange, believes in the emotional and spiritual side of music. "I don't listen to music for the pure intent to rock on. Rather, I listen to music to create a disturbance, to make me realize things that are distant. The music that I create and listen to has nothing to do with what I feel, but rather it is an escape from what I feel into new and more complex feelings."

I can agree with his statement about Sparrow Orange. The music is definitely not meant to rock on but is a solid mix between electronic (IDM) and post-rock and it's quite original at times. The ingredients Aaron used are unique percussion, smooth melodies, strange background noises and sometimes even vocals. The whole album is quite relaxing, but the melodies keep it interesting enough, so it won't turn into a snoozefest.

When I got the album I had trouble keeping my attention to the music, it's definitely not easy-listening; even if the melodies sound simple, the core of the music is quite complex. I tried to listen to it at different times of the day, but "Hands And Knees Music" especially work well at night. I can also imagine playing this album in the car in the early morning after a long night of partying.

With twelve good songs, "Hands And Knees Music" is a decent first full-lenght. The disc can be placed next to your Boards Of Canada CDs since both acts are quite similar in some points. If you're into dreamy music with some small post-rock influences then Sparrow Orange is something you should like.
