Vestigial - Translucent Communion [Cold Meat Industry - 2008]

Vestigial are a project from Italy who offer up a mix of dark ambience, slowed  industrial rhythms and bleak cinematic expanse. Translucent Communion is their first full length after a cdr, split Vinyl release and some compilation tracks.

When I first played Translucent Communion it rather brought to mind Inade’s Aldebaran- with it’s mix of subtle industrial rhythmic elements, deep black and hopeless harmonic drone drifts and cinematic simmer, along with muffled dialogue and  radio elements. Over repeated plays it’s unfolded it’s own nuances, identity and bleak beauty, through clearly Inade were a big influence on the project. Through the six tracks on offer here Vestigial show they have the  knack at making effective, bleak, eerier and sometimes dense atmospheres, with Translucent Communion making a fine soundtrack for wonderings in a  post apocalyptic world.

A effectively bleak and apocalyptic yet cinmatic debut album which though at times rather too closely mimics it’s influences though there's enough atmospheric originality and sonic flare to make it enjoyable in it’s own right.
