Osso Exótico + Z'ev - Self titled [Crouton Music - 2007]This collaboration mangers to be edgy, atmosphere and at the same time surprising, erratic and chaotic, built around often dense droning and sinister organ throbs and layers of often intricate percussive matter and detail. The piece starts off very active, shifting and dense with lots of atmospheric layers of organ tones, lots of small percussive movements and sound textures. It gives the feeling akin to a Sunday church gathering that has been taken over by spirits from the other side- as many hands and limbs hover and press on organ tones and church drum kit is rattled and blown through. As the piece progresses it settle down into a slower, quieter, less movement pace, organ notes are held, gong like tones unfold in slow patterns, dragging tones slide and hover out of metallic drums, and general percussive matter is more spread out and often slurred 'n' sleazy. The piece feeling more eerie and haunted as if the Sunday mourners are now dead at the hands of the awoken spirits. As the spirits just gently creepy hover and slide around the room- the parishioners faces set in silent screams, there eye focusing on nothing. A very rewarding just over 45 minute piece that mangers to sound chaotic, yet at the same time very controlled and focus beating with a creepy black atmospheric heart that’s present through-out.
