Nora Orlandi - Il dolce corpo di Deborah(The Sweet Body of Debora [Fin De Siécle Media - 2007]

This reissue of the soundtrack from 1968 French/Italian giallo is a real rather memorable cheesy treat- mixing together dramatic easy listening, lounge vibes, Hammond organ pumps, jazzy fills & overblow tacky female/male 60’s pop swoon.

This has fast become one of my favourite soundtrack reissues in the last year or so. It’s just the wonderful balance of good memorable themes, quirky and bizarre musically touches, enough audio cheese and retro fun to sink a small boat. With this disk you get both the simulated stereo version and original mono version - so in reality you only have 25 minutes of music- played twice. But what a 25 minutes it is - there’s never any low points or slowing in pace, it just keeps pumping out its nylon flared and big collared shirt vibe. Oddly, being a giallo, it doesn’t really have many darker or more sinister tones - it’s kept fairly playful and upbeat through out. Hell you could easily have this on loop as a soundtrack for a retro drinks party, it really is that good.

A few great moments come in the form of the opener Marcel - Deborah, which mixes together soothing & eerier organ hazes with male and female harmonies. Ossessione has an up beat groovy circus come to town feel about it, with some heady tripped out effects just at the edge of the running bass line, organ and piano. I Robot sounds like a lo-grade Jim Morrison at his most rough- shouting out vocals over the top of jazzy rock groovy. Really one could go on and on- there’s so many groovy and varied sounds to cheese out to here.

It’s packaged like all of the other Fin De Siécle Media soundtrack reissues in a four colour fold out digiPak. With groovy pictures and poster artwork from the movie and a write up of the movies plot and a bit about Nora Orlandi herself. Really if you enjoy soundtracks or easy listening that is quirky, cheesy and memorable this is a must buy.
