Wolf Eyes - Black Wing Over The Sand [Idea Recordings/Kning Disk - 2007]Black wing Over the sand finds Wolf Eyes at their most eerier, doom laden, primal and atmospheric. Following on from the evil and sinister air of their last full length ‘proper’ album Human Animal- but stretching that vibe way out into an emotional battering and unforgiving one long 35 minute track. The track is built around droning doomy electronics, 'so sinister you can almost taste them' chugging guitar dismemberment & thundding death nail percussion. Never really exploding into really noise, only slighty towards the end and then not really head ripping stuff. This slowly tortures and surrounds you in such a grim and tarry atmosphere that gets to almost suffocation point, this is so high with dread and unpleasant implications. The title really does conjure up the music excellently bringing to mind been peg out tied on a cooking 100 degrees plus beach/ desert floor, slowly been surrounded by huge winged demons- almost blocking out the suns cooking heat- they circle round and round waiting for night to fall and then they can start to riping your near dead frame limb from limb. Really this could be such a great soundtrack for some wonderful doom soaked and brutal horror film, I'd really love to see what they could do with a soundtrack. Another exellent and inventive chapter in the Wolf Eyes growing story, just can’t wait to see what they hit us with next. To hear sound clips, buy direct drop in here. Roger Batty
