MDS - Brutal Deluxe [Self release - 2025]Here’s thirty minutes of brutalising ‘n’ billowing walled noise from UK’s MDS ( Most Dangerous Soldier). This project's themes all of its work around macho/robotic sci-fi focused anime, and the like- for this release, we get an illustration of a futuristic/ violent ballgame, along the lines of Rollerball (1975). This is a self-released affair, and it can be found here at the project's Bandcamp here .
MDS is one of the more recent projects from Leeds-based Peter Beswick( Carrion, Meanwood Beck, Utterblight). As far as I can gather, it started in March of this year, having, as of writing, ten releases to its name, taking in splits with the likes of Sado Rituals and Juanito))), as well as stand-alones.
The single self-titled track here comes in at dead on the thirty-minute mark. The ‘wall’ is a dense mass of sound that brings together a rapid mix of buffing/billowing tone, cluttering mids, with jittering static-bound edges. I’m getting images of speeding/ running through some sci-fi light/laser-lined tunnel, I guess to participate in the brutal ballgame on the front cover of the release.
I’ve enjoyed most of this project's output thus far, but I must say Brutal Deluxe is particularly enduring, as I’ve played it multiple times. I think it’s down to the rewardingly enclosing density and the relative original textures on display. so I’m most interested to hear what's next from MDS. Roger Batty
