Whore's Breath - Open Flask [L Abeille Cool - 2025]Open Flask is a recent long-form track wall noise release from Cincinnati’s Whore’s Breath. The single forty-five-minute track is built around a punishing, yet oddly engaging pelting & juddering static grain-toned wall, which is woven into a thick/ impenetrable mass. The digital release appears on Bordeaux, France's L'Abeille Cool. The monochrome cover art features a picture of a strange-looking/antique white flask, with a small chain on its top, and metallic-looking ridges across its body. The album can be found here
The self-titled track rolls in at dead on the forty-five-minute mark. The ‘wall’ presents us with a highly taut & tense mix of a slightly rattling/ dusty pelting, constantly ‘n’ crisp hacking, with a selection of hissing, grainy, and dustily slicing subtones.
The image I’m getting in my head when playing the track is something right in front of my face being drilled by many made-out-of-stone drill bits. As one crumbles or breaks, another one appears to replace it. And I’ll be dammed in places- I can almost taste real dusty grains in my mouth, or flicking grains in my eyes.
So, Open Flask is another consistent and engaging example of the ‘wall’ form from Whore’s Breath. If you enjoy dense, unforgiving, yet rewardingly layered walling, you need to check this out. Roger Batty
