Milenasong - Seven Sisters [Monika - 2007]Milenasong paint a quirky mix of folk, country, indie, lo-fi electroncia with avant shades on to a warm and often cluttered canvas of an album. Making this a rewarding, atmospheric, playful and haunting first full-length from this one woman German project. It often brings to mind female led indie of the 80’s or strong female guitar led pop, but with a claming folk heart. The guitars never really ripping and roar or become too distorted. Each track is drawn in a rich muilt-layered and inventive way, but always an ear is kept on been tuneful and never too playful , so as not to take focus away from the considerable song craft There seems a real heat-felt honesty on display here, the songs often quite beautiful emotional. Each track uses a rich and accomplished instrumental sound pallet to surround and decorate the plucked and strummed acoustic and electric guitars, with layered female voices on top. A Superb debut that is both soothing, inventive, tuneful and varied. Milenasong has managed to carve out a distinctive singer song writer voice, that I look forward to hearing more of in the future.
