WELTFRIED ⇔ GENERAL MAGIC - Die Autokorrektur Treibt Mich Noch In Den Warenkor [Generate And Test - 2024]Generate and Test imprint presents Die Autokorrektur Treibt Mich Noch In Den Warenkorb , a collaborative effort by sonic fellow travelers WELTFRIED ⇔ GENERAL MAGIC. This slim EP delivers four interesting compositions that seamlessly melds angry to jovial computer music, melodious to abrasive guitar work, variable beat arrangements, and lots of crackle and squeak. It’s a strange confluence of sounds, that goes from rhythmic (dare I say danceable at times), to utterly noisy and cacophonous, which in lesser skilled hands could be a stylistic nightmare, but the pairing on this EP manage to pull it off quite well. The first two tracks, respectively titled “Autokorrektur 1” and “Autokorrektur 2”, were produced by Weltfried using material from General Magic. With Track one we’re greeted with lots of machine gun percussive bits, angry computer notes, and generator-like hum, that work up to furious ball of sound, only to be tempered by melodic guitar. Track two kicks off with insectoid-like noisy parts to resolve into more rhythmic beats and guitar work.
Tracks three and four, respectively titled “Warenkorb 1”and “Warenkorb 2” General Magic return the favour by working with material from Weltfried’s guitar sessions. Track three has a real mysterious vibe and for some reason reminds me of something from Emeralds. Glitched out soundscapes and guitar parts round out this piece. Track 4 is the noisiest piece on the EP. The piece is punctuated with guitar work that sounds like it’s channeled through a CB radio and some menacing synth work.
Overall, a great little EP that I hope will inspire more collaborations down the road. To find out more Hal Harmon
