Magda - And Suddenly, Just Like That, Everything You Cheri [Self release - 2024]This rather lengthily titled release takes in a fourteen-and-a-half minute-long example of layered/ detailed walled noise with decidedly industrial leanings. Magda is from New Jersey, and the walled/ texture noise project started in April of 2023. Initially, all their releases were focused on ’40s/ 50’s female glamour ‘n’ perversion, but this is not so set now. To date, it’s released just over fifty releases.
This recent release comes in the form of a digital release- it features a rather murky & yellowed black ‘n’ white picture of a man & a woman in old-fashioned bathing suits. The release can be found here.
The self-titled track comes in at fourteen minutes and twenty-seven seconds. It’s built around a backbone of trudging/ lose rumble, a slicing hiss ‘n’ grate, and a light rattle. This is fed over by occasional rail machine slice, almost harmonic hydrolytic shifting, buried voices & more. The whole ‘wall’ is a rewarding puzzle – which does reward, though I'm not sure if it feels connected to the release title- but that’s my only quibble.
So in finishing if you get enjoyment from dense, at points effectively puzzling wall-making then, And Suddenly, Just Like That, Everything You Cherished and Took for Granted Has Been Reduced to Fucking Ash is worth a look. Roger Batty
