Scatmother & Chaos Cascade - The Insignificance Of Human Life [Dunkelheit Produktionen - 2023]The Insignificance Of Human Life is a German noise split- bringing together Power electronics project Scatmother, and noise/ PE project Chaos Cascade. With the CD taking in seven tracks, and around thirty-five minutes of noise. The release appears on Germanys Dunkelheit Produktionen. With the CD coming presented in a clear jewel with an eight-page booklet taking in lyrics, and a front cover colour picture of a few vultures stripping flesh from a large rib cage. The release is Ltd to just 200 copies.
The CD opens with four tracks from Scatmother, and these are all examples of nasty/ brutal PE. We move from caustic swoops, searing whooshing, and sour waves of “Pixie Dust(Never Turn Over)” which is topped with shouty rants regarding vomiting in the toilet, among other things. Onto the buzzing sweeps, electro chops, and whistling bays of “Scarps Of Demis”. Finishing off with waving pitch tone sweeps, static swim ‘n’ shred, and painful warbling tones of “Female Suicide Sequence” where the vocals are just about made out in the slowly baying & burning flow of the track.
The three Chaos Cascade tracks move from the eerier industrial knock ‘n’ swim, meets searing glides of noise that is “Bhioxesz” where the vocals keep drifting in growled masses of foreboding sound. Onto the evenly paced ‘n’ crusty tone crunch, drifting psycho ambience, and sudden sweeps of noise of “Vhycta”.
As a split The Insignificance Of Human Life is a good enough journey into crusty & nasty German noise matter. I’d say out of the two artists I enjoyed Chaos Cascade most- as they seemed to have been doing something a bit more original, but the Scatmother tracks are fine for what they are. Roger Batty
