Whore's Breath - Preservation [RusZUD Net Label 2.0 - 2023]Preservation is a two-track affair from this Cincinnati, Ohio-based wall-making project. Both tracks here have a decidedly rushing grainy ‘n’ gritty tone, and each slides in at the around fifteen-minute mark. The release is a digital release put out by Russia’s RusZUD Net Label 2.0. For the cover artwork, we get what looks like a picture of blacked/ possible frost-bitten vegetation shot from above- which works well with the ‘walls’ within. Drop in here for more info
Both tracks here are untitled. So, the first one is built around a constant rolling hiss- which is surrounded by a map of smaller pops, snaps, and light rattles. The ‘wall’ gives the illusion that it’s slowly but surely reducing in speed/ thinning back in its flow- but in reality, I think it’s very set. I really enjoyed focusing on a particular subtone detail in this track.
The second track is a bit more busy/ less lulling in its attack. It features a rapid scrap ‘n’ drag- this is set into a mesh of smaller sweeping grit, which at points seems just beyond one's hearing/ off in the distance. Where the last track felt like it was slowing, this has the illusion of speeding up. Again the smaller textures/ details are the most rewarding here.
Both tracks on Preservation utilise a similar textural pallet- but they each skilfully create their own sonic sensations/ illusions. So, another worthy release from Whore’s Breath. Roger Batty
