Occlusion - 58- 3 Signaux [Self release - 2023]Here’s a recent two-track release from Occlusion- the French walled noise project that focuses all on their release on medical operations. With each of the 'walls' featured here landing around the twenty-two-minute mark. This is a self-released digital affair. And as with all of this project's releases, we get an in-operation photo for its front cover. The theme of this release appears to be male gentile-based surgery. The release can be found here
First up we have “182” here we find a rough ‘n’ grainy bass judder- which is wrapped in jittering, scraping, and billow sub-tones. The whole ‘wall’ really gives the impression of something being slow but surely buzzed and burrowed out- which of course when you take it in the context of the release theme is somewhat cringe-inducing. There is a little movement & shift in the ‘wall’- with some rather rewarding grain breakdowns here & there.
Next, we have “183” and here we find a tight blend of bass purr, compressed static scrub, and muffled industrial drone. If the first track was roughly burrowing out something- this feels more compacted & focused in its attack. With the whole thing having a more claustrophobic, at points almost bedded quality to it.
Occlusion 58- 3 Signaux presents us with two effective and different sounding ‘walls’ which both nicely feed into the release theme. It’s great to see this project dropping a release ever so often with little fuss or fanfare- and I’m interested to hear their next release, whenever it drops. Roger Batty
