Neronoia - Un Mondo In Me [Eibon Records - 2006]As many long time readers of this site and my reviews, will probably know Iím more than a little bit of a horror movie geek. The reason I mention this is the first time I played Neronoia album, I was immediately hit by a moive and that movies characters that could well have Listen to this ,the movie in question was 80ís teen Horror vampire film The Lost Boys. Un Mondo In Me seems to fit pefectly into that world, with itís mix of 80ís synth work, pop rock guitar elements, gothic undertones and a splattering of horror filmatic moments.
Yes this is very chessey and very retro, but I found it most enjoyable for it all. Tracks all follow a similar pattern; drum machine feed rhythm, bass ripples, deep often loudly whispered Italian vocals, creepy fog coming in synth work and guitar atmospherics, that sometimes wonders into 80ís pop rock soloing.Theres even on one track with a Whisted outtro, in fine 80's fashion. Sure itís nothing world changing or original, but Neronoia really managed to mix up a great vamperic Cackling, eyes roll back in head, mullet hair cuted, creepy 80ís teen vibe, deliver it with general conviction and flair.
For fans of retro fun and chills, but if you take your musically hits in seriously and arty manner, avoid this at all cost. But if like myself you enjoy retro chessey shenanigans and laughter in the dark, give Neronoia some of your time and maybe a pint or tow of your red stuff too.Roger Batty
