Dosis Letalis - Layers Of Lies [ Abhorrent After Death - 2022]Layers Of Lies is a double-pro CDR release featuring two around an-hour-long wall from this respected Serbian wall noise creator. As its title suggests both tracks here are prevalent with layers of texture, making for two dense & intense trips into wall craft. This release appeared in early summer 2022, and was released by the American harsh noise label Abhorrent After Death. The two pro-CDRs feature rip ‘n’ torn college-like art, and these come presented in a multi-coloured inked card sleeve, which takes in more of the rip ‘n’ torn-based collage artwork. As of this review, copies are still available from the label- to find out more/ buy direct drop in here.
On the first disc, we have the track “Layers and layers and layers” which comes in at the fifty-two minute and twenty-one seconds mark. The ‘wall’ opens with a densely packed & manic blend of dragging flame tone, choppy-slightly-electrified squelch, and distant buzz sustain. As we move through the ‘wall’ I start to make out more defined-yet- muffled sub-drone, a more twittering-like feast, and a wandering machine-like hover. Though if these were here from the off?, appeared later?, or are a trick of the wall? I’m unsure- but of course, this makes the whole ‘wall’ so engaging/ entrancing.
Over on the second disc we have the track “Peeling Off The Layers”- which comes in at the one hour and eighteen-second mark. This opens in a more low-key/stripped-back form with an even flow of pelting static grain, which are underfed by a blend of distant hiss 'n' smart. By around the twenty-fourth minute, a thicker grain of constantly rolling-grained static is added into the ‘wall’- and this starts to create a taut more encasing feeling. With by the 40th minute a dense & constrict blend of rapid static grain pelt, and a more pronounced weaving hiss coming into play.
Layers Of Lies is very much for those looking to be literally weaved in layered & detailed wall-noise craft. Certainly not a release for those new to the ‘wall’ scene, but for those looking for entrancing/ subtle altering wall texturing this will hit the spot. Roger Batty
