Yellow Swans - Live During War Crimes Vol #2 [Release The Bats - 2006]Live during War crimes # 2 is an edited together collection of tracks from live recordings made at the start of this year. But instead of feeling and sounding like a live album this feels a more constant and un-live really. The tracks are nicely sequenced for maximum effect, carrying a grim apocalyptic metallic tone through out. This is a more guitar-ed up and noisey than their last more grim ambient release Global Clone. This almost seems to have a demonic feel, like the pair are conjuring and boiling hellish depths- the guitar sailing and cutting in bleak wonder, burning electronics rippling and pounding in the back ground. Almost having gothic, dark metal and doom tone to some of it, track four in particular ends in striped down doomy guitar swirls, but these elements more often than not are buried deep under the albums black skin. Really this come across as their bleakest work thus far ,there’s very little light here, just depths of shadow and dispair. This would make a fine soundtrack for the end of the world. It brings to mind boiling seas, crumbling builds and eyes popping out of cooking skulls. The tracks are slightly shorter here than some of their other releases, the five tracks running from six to ten minutes a piece- but like all great albums this should be experienced as a world wreaking whole. It all comes package in a rather nice fold out card sleeve with black felt inlay. Yellow swans again show they have the ability to change sound and tact. Once more showing why there one of the most important noise what every bands around to day. If you want to get your hands on this it’s Ltd to a 1000, so you better act quick as Yellow Swans Releases have a tendency to disappear fast. To by direct and get more info go here Roger Batty
