Things 666 - Things 666( Blu Ray/ DVD) [Sterling Entertainment - 2021]Things 666 is an anthology Horror/ Sci-fi film from Oregon-based Joe Sherlock- who makes decidedly distinctive low-budget fare, that blend typical genre tropes/themes, with hammy drama, recurring jokes/ elements, and larger ladies taking showers. The film 2021 was released by ultra-low budget genre label/ studios Sterling Entertainment, who are hellish prolific- seemingly releasing multiple often sequel-connected films in a year. Things 666 is yet another sequel, and as its title may suggest it’s the 6ths in the series- seemingly all the other films are also analogy affairs. Things 666 comes as either a Blu Ray Or DVD, though I can’t comment on these/ if they feature any extras- as I was reviewing an online screener
Things 666 runs at one hour and eleven-minute mark- taking in three stories, one main wrap-around story & two shorter stories. The main story is entitled Sump Pump Monster, which is regarding a flesh-sucking green tube creature that likes sucking folks' faces- this is focused around Monica(Jewel Siren) a teacher who was recently involved in trying to stop a school shooting. The story is set in & around her house, where in the opening pre-credits her father is drilling a sump pump in her basement, hence the title. Her sister Liv(Tonjia Atomic) is also hanging out at the house, and she keeps watching a goatee-bearded internet conspiracy theorist who keeps claiming her sister is a Crisis actor. With the green tube-sucking creature turning up ever so often, to attack
The other two stories are Doll At The Bar & Camgirl & The Worm. The first concerns the discovery of a small nun doll, which unlocks the mystery of how the recently dead owner died. And this features director Joe Sherlock as an unfortunate regular. The second story finds larger lady cam model Rusti( Emilynn) being asked a favour by one of her long-time clients, who wants her to look after his worm!.
The main story is ok, though does at points get a bit lagged down with moments of awkward drama, but Siren is one of the better actors here, and she’s also appeared in a few other of Mr Sherlock's films. Doll At The Bar has some subtle creepy/ unsettling moments, and Sherlock himself is a not bad actor either. Though I’d say easily my favourite is Camgirl & The Worm- first off there’s the mystery of exactly what the worm is, secondly Louis(George Stover) the owner of said ‘worm’ is one of the better actors here coming off nicely mysterious, and lastly we get the appearance of recurring Sherlock actor Dale Wilson- who as usual is playing a secret agent/ man in black. The film features a few neat low-budget effects set up like a face sucked off attack, and melted by mayonnaise death.
Things 666 is another solid enough release from Mr Sherlock, with all his normal tropes/ bases covered. Sure, some of the pacing/ drama elements are a tad trying in places, but these can be largely forgiven as you can see Sherlock’s true passion for creating modern shlock. And there is a real charm to his tropes, which do grow with each new Sherlock film I see Roger Batty
