Alyx Star is a recent two-track release from ultra prolific US wall noise project Koobattoo Asparagus. The release takes its name/ influence from US adult porn actress, who is also rather prolific featuring in fifty films/ shorts since she started making films at the age of 21 in 2019.

This digital release was put out both as a self-release by the project itself, and on Forth Worth’s Hot Fuzz. Artwork wise we have a red rose backdrop, with a small cropped picture of Ms Star smiling.

Both tracks run at dead on the sixteen-minute mark, and both are self-titled. The first track brings together a constantly rolling billow, with a set map of tightly jittering ‘n’ juddering static surrounding it. The whole thing feels akin to dropping free fall through an endless horizontal tunnel, which is alive with a constant weave of arching electricity.  It’s certainly a simplistic ‘wall’, but in no less effective in its focused attack.

The second track brings together a more hole boring drone- this is surrounded by a thinner slightly lashing static grained tone. For this track, I’m getting rather effective sonic illusions occurring- and at points different it feels like the lashing is both jitter, separating, or slight shredding- though of course both elements are very much fixed & focused in their feel & attack.

In finishing Alyx Star features one simplistic if effective wall, and another more audio-illusion-focused wall. So another workman-like/ consistent release from Koobattoo Asparagus.
