Nolland Voyde - Kald Vind Blåse [Death To Dynamics - 2022]Kald Vind Blåse (translated Cold Wind Blown) is a three-track journey in grey and industrial-tinged ANW texturing. Each track hits at spot on the ten-minute mark, and each is a deeper trip into textural glumness. This is a digital release on Uk’s Death To Dynamics. Cover artwork wise we get a murky grey and black central picture, this is topped with minimal white texts. Head here to check it here
We open with “Kald” here we find a tightly fixed blend of murky grey billow and a sort of mechanically like locked churn. Together they create a wonderful feeling of numbing and hoovering grimness, which feels literally like one has been fed through an ageing roller system in some long-forgotten, bare grey light-lit manufacturing plant. Next, we have ”Vind” which finds a constant muffled chopping backed by a lightly cluttering film reel-like element - the whole thing feels wonderful oppressive, and brings to mind cigarette-hazed showing of porn loops, full of hollow-faced and blank-eyed participants.
Lastly, we of course have “Blåse”, and here we get pulled into more of a subterranean feel- as we can just make out a constant texture chop-which is imbued by a woozy aquatic drone. And here we feel like we are dropping slowly but surely into our watery doom in a slow leaking antiquarian diving bell.
Trying to get the right balance between unease ambience, and low-key repetitive texturing is a skill in it’s self- and I’d say with this three-track release Norway’s Nolland Voyde has got it just right. If you are after numbing and grey ANW this will most definitely appeal. Roger Batty
