L'Azionismo Viennese, and Portland Orego - Piss Aktion [Basement Corner Emission - 2022]

Piss Aktion is a decidedly grim 'n' murky wall noise collab- it brings together cluttering crunch and lightly fuzzing haze with a gloomy drifting spectral ambient undercurrent. The collaborators here are Italy’s L'Azionismo Viennese, and Portland Oregon-based Hana Harua.

The release comes in the form of a digital download, which appears on Basement Corner Emissions. Artwork wise we have a decidedly underground black metal or doom-like cover, feature cut-out old gothic texts, and a drawing of what might be someone grouch on the top of an old castle- though you can’t really make out what’s going on. The release can be downloaded from here

Featured we have a single self-titled track- this clocks in at just under the one-hour mark. The track brings together a slightly bucking rapid crunch ‘n’ clutter, hazed fuzzing drift, on a constantly bobbing ambient sea of warbling moans & wavering drone hovers. Every so often we get either high pitch sustain or mid-range blip. The whole thing sort of floats along in a glum and gloomy manner- which is a rewarding blend of the barren crunch, misty fuzz haze, and ambient ghoulishness.

I’m not completely sold on the length- having mixed feelings about it, sometimes when I’ve played the track I was held throughout, at others my interest started to drift. So I wonder if maybe it should have been half the length, and then it would have played more consistently. Nevertheless, this is a worthy wall noise split which is knee-deep in grim unease.

I was already aware of Hana Harua, but hadn't heard any of L'Azionismo Viennese before hearing this split- so I’ll certainly be checking out more of their work, as going from their personal bandcamp page they have around ten releases to their name. In finishing, if you like where crude ‘n’ crunchy wall craft and gloomy spectral ambience meet- this will be something you’ll want to be checking out.
