Norfolk Trotter - Untitled [Self release - 2022]Here’s a recently released 3inc CDR from UK’s Norfolk Trotter. It features a single eighteen-minute rapid ‘n’ roughshod wall craft-which nicely batters, bays, and buffets at ones sonic senses. The release is a self-released affair. It’s presented in a mini white slip, which features black rubber-stamped textures- which are created by the flints used to create the track, so each is slightly different. The release comes in an edition of twenty copies- and as of this review can still be purchased here.
Norfolk Trotter is all the work of Norwich-based Micheal Ridge(Acerbitas, Zebra Mu, Dial-Up Summer Breeze) who has been active in the UK noise/ experimental scene since the early 2010s. Norfolk Trotter has been active since 2017- with to date sixteen releases to its name. The project only utilizes stone & flit as its source material, with this track being created by grinding/scraping of two flint nodules,
I’ve followed this project since it started, and I must say this stands as one of the more unrelenting crude and banteringly raw things I’ve heard from this project. The ‘wall’ is a mixture of rapid bass clutter and slight skittering-manic slide ‘n’ hack- with occasional smaller knocks ‘n’ blunt bashes. It certainly feels both primal and intense in it’s attack. It kicks straight in thick and rushing- never letting up, or easing back the gears.
So in finishing if you are looking for rapidly battering and intense wall matter, then this will most certainly meet that need…but don’t hang around too long, as it has an edition of twenty copies which has already rather depleted. Roger Batty
