Tab In/Tab out - Sabrina Carpenter [Hot Fuzz - 2022]Here we have a forty-one-minute wall tribute to Sabrina Carpenter- a twenty-something American actress, singer, and songwriter, who started off her acting career in the Disney TV comedy series Girl Meets World, moving on to film work in the likes of Horns and Emergency. I’m afraid to say I wasn’t aware of her before this release- but the cover artwork features a picture of Ms Carpenter on the red carpet in a long flowing glittery dress. This digital-only release appears on Fort Worth Texas based Hot Fuzz- who in recent months have been releasing a fair bit of walled/ textured noise releases. The album can be heard/ downloaded here. Tab In/Tab out is the project of Seattle, Washington-based Tim Burkland. It's been going since 2018, and has so far put out an impressive coming on for 100 releases- taking in splits and stand-alones. I’ve now reviewed a few of the projects releases, and have enjoyed what I’ve heard from it- and this (relatively recent) is no exception. The track is named “Girl Meets Wall” coming in at the 41.43 mark. The ‘wall’ is constructed around a constantly flowing, but distant/ murky rattle ‘n’ rumble- this is topped with loosely bucking and ripping tones. To start with the bucking ‘n’ ripping tones are more spaced out/ less frequent- but as the track goes on they seem to become more present. I’m not 100 per cent sure if this is a fact or not, or just a trick of the wall- but I must say the ‘walls’ a rewarding blend of murky flow, and tautly tense bucking ‘n’ ripping texturing- with the whole thing been most entrancing in its flow, leaving me hooked. So Sabrina Carpenter is an effective mid-length ‘wall’- its theme is ok, I guess, and it's neat to see a departure from the more typical dark focuses on the genre. Though I’m not sure if it’s meant as a nice tribute, or more of a celebration of young Hollywood vapidity- but either way works/ is fine. Roger Batty
