Thin Mountain - Thin Mountain VIII [Fantasy - 2021]

I cannot get enough of harsh noise wall, and every time I stumble upon a new release, it’s another opportunity to feed my need. Thin Mountain is a well-known harsh noise wall project hailing from the US, and is mastermind by Sean E. Matzus, a prolific noise artist known for Black Leather Jesus as well as a bunch of other, well-respected projects.

The album consists of two agonizing and long walls, with beautiful screaking details colourizing the whole outcome. Overall, the sound is thick and clear and leans towards the middle to the high-frequency spectrum. The two pieces are interleaved by a long sample acting as a bridge between them. The second piece is somewhat harsher than the first one, or bleaker in a way, something that gives a hint of progression or movement in an otherwise static resonance. The album is flowing constantly and easily, in a well-established and almost meditative manner; as it should have!

The manipulation and craftsmanship of the sound is solid and creative, where simplicity and the monolithic approach play a vital role, as always in works that reside in a pure minimalistic realm. A multitude of tiny elements are well concealed in the chaotic sonic streams. It is punching harsh noise wall with delicate aspects, inviting the listener to delve in and explore the vast territory of Thin Mountain VIII microcosm. Harsh noise wall in its finest.

In a nutshell, Thin Mountain VIII is another stellar chapter in Thin Mountain’s portfolio. To grab the release drop by here
