Sado Rituals - Behind the Mask of Isa [Gates Of Hypnos - 2022]

Behind the Mask of Isa is the welcome return of Polish wall noise project Sado Rituals – who hasn't released anything for a little while. The release features a darkly pressing, and subtly foreboding example of ANW- which comes in at just shy of the forty-minute mark.

This is a digital release- which appears on Poland’s Gates Of Hypnos. Artwork wise we get a simple, but effective enough inversed stone craving picture of Jesus’s face. And it can be found/ downloaded here…and I certainly recommend checking out more releases from the label, as they put out a fair bit of other walled noise material.

The single and self-titled track featured here comes in at the 39.57 mark. The sonic ‘wall’ is constructed around a murky train tunnel-like droning, which is topped by a dragging, come slightly skipping crawling-at-the-earth texture. The whole thing creates a feeling of both oppressively droning circling, and dank pressing on your face earthiness.  As the track progresses it seems as if more dusty fumbling and rapidly dragging through soil texturing is added to the mix- though quite how much of this is real, and how much is a trick of the ‘wall’ I can’t truly say.

Visually I’m getting a rather been buried alive while on body paralysing pharmaceuticals vibe- as dank & decaying earth, is thrown first on your limbs, then onto your face and finally eyes as the light starts to fade, and you become one with the slowly pressing weight of the soil. The whole 'wall' retains its pressing-yet-droning entrancement throughout, and this certainly is a mighty fine return to the scene from Sado Rituals.

Behind the Mask of Isa is a very trance-inducing example of the ANW form- which I really found myself sinking into, and getting engulfed by its dankly earthy to dusty circling textural flow. Let’s hope there’s more Sado Rituals work in the pipeline!.
