Go to the Michael Perilstein website  Michael Perilstein - The Least Worst of Michael Perilstein [Perseverance - 2006]

Who the heck is  Michael Perilstein and what’s this all about?, I hear you ask, well Mr Perilstein makes bad cheesy sounding soundtracks for micro budget B movies like: Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Beavergate(!?) and The deadly spawn, etc. As well as releasing rather strange concept album, one which was released on the Residents label Ralph records. So really you know you’re in for an odd and different time from the outset.

This collection brings together music from six soundtracks and two concept albums: Elephants Gliding On ice and Godzilla vs. your mother. Quite what the concept of either album is unclear, since none of the tracks have any lyrics or indication  as to what the concept is, this doesn’t really matter as this works best moving from one bit of audio odd cheese  slice to the next. Cheap synthesizer dodgy about, drum machines rear there ugly, but some how lovable heads, unconvincing guitar solos widdley by. All making a collection of tracks that  Puff out morkish emotional air that brings to mind: tacky romance scenes, not so dramatic chase scenes, and encounters with obviously latex monster. All done with Perilstein unmistakeable air, some of the synth vibe and atmosphere does bring to Mind the Residents work in the mid 80’s, Cleary why he was invited along to join the Ralph label, but Perilstein never over loads on strangeness, like our eyeball friends. Sure it’s bad, but its lovable bad, the tracks never outstaying there welcome. There’s something tackily warming and familiar about it all, just like the B movies Perilstein writes for.

Sure this isn’t for everyone, but if  odd tasting cheese  is your  platter of choice, you’ll have a really feast. To find out more and buy direct go here
