The Perfume Of The Lady In Black - Sylvia, Little Sylvia [The White Visitation - 2022]The Perfume Of The Lady In Black, is a wall-noise collaboration between Scott Kindberg (She Walks Crooked) and veteran noise makers Richard Ramirez and Sean E. Ramirez Matzus. And what we find here is a plain and uncompromised example of the harsh noise wall form. Sylvia, Little Sylvia is a bombardment of static absolution, spanning in two pieces and clocking just over thirty minutes. A steady feed of harsh noise that resides in the middle-frequency range. It is streaming solidly as an electronic river, where a multitude of tiny details within is colouring the -otherwise- non-dynamic structure. A typical and beloved aspect of harsh noise wall. The absence of dynamics is equalized by the crunchy sound that alone is plenty. Actually, a multi-textured sound, full and thick, even if the bass is not the main ingredient, where the high frequencies are somewhat evident but obscured. All the above are leading to a claustrophobic, yet serene outcome that turns to be meditative, simple and astonishing. A monolithic conception embraces the listener with its strict approach.
The beauty in harsh noise wall is that you won’t be experiencing something very new or something not done in the past, but every time is like the first time, in this release as well. Every devoted artist in this trend is unique in their simplicity. After all, it is absolute minimalism crafted with love and care, contributing to a very important fracture in the vast universe of experimental music.
This digital download/ cassette was instant wall-noise love for me. I just wish it lasted longer, but repeating it is a great remedy for this issue. Grab yours from here but don't hang around, as there are only six copies left, as I write this. Karl Grümpe
