Dosis Letalis/Vilgoć - Split [Antenna Non Grata - 2021]From April last year here’s a walled split bringing together work from French-based waller Dosis Letalis and Poland’s Vilgoć. It comes as either a C50(which I’m reviewing) or a digital download- featuring two one-take tracks from Dosis Letalis, and one side long track from Vilgoć. The release is part of Make Noise Great Again Series from Poland’s Antenna Non Grata- with the plain black shelled tape coming presented in a clear tape case. This features a yellow, red, and two shades of blue busy line patterned cover, with inside simple white text on black inside sleeve. Not sure what the pressing was on these, but the labels bandcamp indicates there are still copies left.
Dosis Letalis has been active since around 2015, putting out over one hundred and sixteen releases, and Vilgoć since 2009 releasing around thirty or so releases. So both are seasoned veterans of the walled noise scene- with both parties here offering up some worthy ‘wall’ work.
The first side takes in two tracks from Dosis Letalis- these were both done in one take, with zero editing/ overdubs. First, off we have “Untitled I”- which takes up just over fifteen minutes. The track is built around a persistent, blunt and bothersome low-end bashing tone; this is underfed by this off in the distant squiggling/ skating texture. The whole track has a nice feeling of urgency about it, but the muffled/ blunt edge gives the work a vibe of battering playfulness. Next up we have the just shy of ten minutes of “Untitled II”- here we have a blend of stop ‘n’ start rip ‘n’ buffet, battering hiss and haze- these elements are blended together to create a dynamically appealing wall, which nicely entrances.
Flipping the tape over & we have the single Vilgoć track- this is entitled “Noise Exaration”, and comes in at the twenty-four minute and twenty-four-second mark. It’s built around a slow & tumbling rumble- which is topped off with a selection of smaller slices, chops, and rattles. This ‘wall’ has a rather pleasingly and soothing trundling quality to its flow- at points you feel one or other of the textures may fade/ alter- but this never really happens. Again another rather appealing wall.
In finishing a most statisfuying split- with both parties severing up some great wall-craft. It’s great to have this tape split, when so much of the scene has been going down the digital route. So please do support the label by buying a copy of the tape, then hopeful labels will start looking at releasing psychical HNW/ textured noise releases again Roger Batty
