Inanition - This Is Not A Message [Self release - 2022]This Is Not A Message is just shy of an hour-long example of the walled noise from Chicago, Illinois based Inanition- whom has been active in the scene for the last eleven or so years, releasing a steady/ even flow of material. This recent release comes in the form of a digital download- which the project has released on its Bandcamp. The album's cover artwork is a creepily inversed grey on black affair- it’s difficult to make out what it is, but it is certainly an unnerving image. The digital file can be downloaded/ streamed here.
The track is constructed around a constant 'n' constricting mesh of popping, juddering, and snapping static grained tone- with a set hiss, over in the distant. The layers our fed out in a taut and tensioned weave- with at points seemingly offer up more pronounced hacking descents, stripped back beaded hover, grinding bass drags, sudden more billow & bayed etc. Though I feel many of these could well be sonic illusions. On the whole, this is a compelling enough nearing hour example of HNW, and while none of the textures is really reinventing the walled noise wheel- the track is well mixed, with the constricting flow of the whole thing being rewarding.
It's always nice to see ‘wall’ acts still creating work after so many years- and Inanition is certainly one of the older acts that still have something to offer. If you’re looking for tauntingly constricting HNW- then This Is Not A Message is worth a try. Roger Batty
