Koobaatoo Asparagus - Flat Power Spectral Density [Self release - 2022]Flat Power Spectral Density is a recent forty-minute example of densely pressing, yet micro detailed walled noise from this San Diego project. The track featured on this digital download brings together, thick and dense pile driving low end and smaller textural detail. The releases cover features an 80’s like sci-fi landscape- a purple stary sky, blue pixel plotting mountains, and red sun which is overlaid by a picture of two large shouldered females smiling- with the whole thing finished off with the ’80s like computer font. As far as I can gather the theme here is a certain wave of sound, which I’m guessing is utilized in the ‘wall’ itself. This is a self-release, and it can be found here
The single ‘wall’ on offer here rolls in at spot on the forty-minute mark. And it’s built around a thick and compacted blend of slugging ‘n’ boring low end, and a mixture of small tones- taking in rattles, hacks, and scrapes. These elements are fed out in a persistent and unrelenting manner, with the low end nicely battering you around, while the smaller tones pull you in deeper so you can make out their patterns/ lay-out. It’s hardly reinventing the walled noise wheel- but it’s rewarding enough, and if you're looking for a blend of pummelling lows and detailed textually elements.
With already four releases under its belt thus far from Koobaatoo Asparagus this year, it looks like it’s going to be another highly prolific year from this San Diego based venture. As I mentioned early on Flat Power Spectral Density is nothing startling different/ fresh, but another consistent enough/ workmanlike example of the walled matter.
