Dosis Letalis - Tis The Time’s Plague [Fantasy - 2021]Tis The Time’s Plague is a CDR release from Serbian wall-nosier Dosis Letalis- it features two tracks, one around the twenty-minute mark and one hitting the forty-minute mark. The sound here is dense, yet detailed in its attack- with the project creating an overwhelming sound, which nicely fits the whole Covid 19 themed vibe of the release. The release appeared on Texas-based label Fantasy-with the CDR coming presented in a thin black DVD case with a solid black sleeve with small minimal white texts on. inside we have a few inlay papers- taking in a fold reproduction of old book texts about a plague, track listing/ detail slip, and other releases on the label flyer. It's ltd to forty copies, and as of this review copies are still available.
First up here we have the title track, and this runs at five seconds short of the twenty-minute mark. The track focuses on a wholly set yet rapidly galloping ‘n’ cluttering low end- this is sewn with smaller rattling ‘n’ snapping texturing that can just be heard. Together the layers blend to create an extremely suffocating and overwhelming ‘wall’, where there is no space or let-up, which of course perfectly puts into sonic form the feelings that everyone has been having on and off since the whole covid thing kick-off, and changed everyone’s lives. Trying to hear the smaller/ distant elements really pulls one in more, so as a result you get even more engulfed by the muffling sonic weight of the whole thing.
Next, we move onto just over forty minutes of “When Madmen Lead The Blind”. It's built around a thick jolting & dragging ripping texture- this is edged by cluttering 'n' spurting subtone sear, which is most clear between the rapid on/off dense textural dwells. Together these elements create a very brutal-yet-uneven attack, where the first track overwhelmed and engulfed you- this track batter’s ‘n’ bays at you, and due to the structure of the whole thing you think it’s going to suddenly cut out, which of course creates a most torturous and nervy ride. And again it's another ‘wall’ that mimics the inner turmoil and tension that many of us felt due to covid.
Tis The Time’s Plague is once again proof positive that Dosis Letalis is one of the more talented artists within walled noise today. As booth tracks do manage to create mood-setting wall matter that does mimic/ convert the panic and overwhelming feeling we’ve all felt over the last few years. Not sure I'd play this a lot, due to feelings it inducers, but when I want that distinctive feeling of low-key panic and been overwhelmed I’ll certainly be reaching for this release. Roger Batty
