Lord Cernunnos - Yuki [Imploding Sounds - 2021]Yuki is a forty-six-minute slice of taut crackle ‘n’ crunch based wall-craft, with the release having dense snowfall in a forest theme that nicely fits the textures with-in. The release is a digital-only download on Seattle, Washington Imploding Sounds. The releases cover artwork is a simple yet effective monochrome picture of snow heavy pine trees, with snow falling in front of them. And if you’d like to download the track for yourself, head to just here.
The Lord Cernunnos project is from Everett, Washington- seemingly been active since around 2011, with early releases having more of an ambient/ drone setting to theme. All of the project's releases are either focused on nature or Anime themes, and at the projects bandcamp there are a good few releases up for offer….and according to discogs, they've released near the 600 releases- so very prolific, so it’s strange I’ve not heard of the project before..
The single self-titled track rolls in at dead on the forty-six-minute mark. And what we have here is an extremely tight, tense, and unrelenting ‘wall’- which is built around rapid crackle and crunch textures. Together these create a sound akin to someone rapidly and evenly walking through deep snow, or maybe someone rolling a huge snowball down a hill, as the white stuff compacts on itself. There is nothing terribly original or unusually about the textures utilized, but what sells it and makes it so rewardingly hypnotic is the dense and taut layers of crackle, which surrounds one in a chilly cocooning manner.
It’s always nice to discover a prolific noisemaker you’ve never heard before- as it gives you a lot of other material to investigate, and that is most certainly the case for Lord Cernunnos. I’m a sucker for moody snow-based sonics, so this release does tick a lot of boxes for me- if you enjoy tight 'n' tense nature-themed wall-craft this is something you’ll be needing to check this out.
