The Girl In The Basket is a roughie from the mid-1970’s- focusing on a pair of reprobates who kidnap a twenty-something woman off the street, to have their wicked way with her. The film's title suggests it’s going to be decidedly grim and unpleasant sleaze, but largely it’s fairly run-of-the-mill cheap 70’s hardcore- and there really is no ‘girl in a basket’. Here from Impulse Pictures we have a region free DVD release of the film, with the only extras here been a twenty-one mintue porn reel.

Released in the year 1975 The Girl In The Basket ( aka Girl in a Box) runs at just sixty-eight minutes, and by roughie standards, it’s decidedly tame/ un-shocking. The big pull here is Rene Bound- an LA-based porn star who in the 1970’s appeared in over 300 hundred films and porn loops- with notable titles been porn take on Little Shop Of Horrors 1973’s Please Don’t Eat My Mother, WIP film Five Loose Women,  and comedy-porn caper Country  Hooker- both from 1974.

The film kicks off almost like an old nudie pick- with Ms Bound soaping herself up and smiling in the bath, over bright and breezy easy listening library music. Then we get her voice-over telling us she’s going to pick up her car, on the way a man and a woman- Daddy(Ric Lutze) and Honey( Candy Alison) force her into their car- taking her back to their isolated house. They strip her and start to force her via knife to first lick Honey’s feet, before getting down to more licking elsewhere. Fairly soon a threesome is underway- with the knife still be used as a threat. Then they tie her down to the day bed, forcing things into her orifices and pilers on nipples- it’s at this point she starts to enjoy what’s going on, and we shift into fairly soon into run-of-mill hardcore. The film really is just one long threesome, with some slight nastiness at the beginning and there’s a will/ she won’t she cut his manhood moment towards the end, but largely it’s fairly vanilla 70’s porn.

The whole thing is a passable enough shot, though some of the set-up’s look a little shaky/ ropy. Bound is a fairly standard normal body-sized brunette from the 70’s- at points, she hints at some acting but this never develops. Both Lutze and Alison seem vaguely threatening to start with, but this doesn’t last for long. And any edge that may have been there is rather flattered by the bland classical music loops, that's played over the top of everything. Not sure where the ‘basket’ in the title comes in, there is one of those classic 70’s hung bamboo chairs- and this is used to give brief breaks to the fleshy action, and the latter as part of the threesome sex act.  I guess if you are either a fan of Ms Bound’s other work or like slightly edgy/ rough 70’s porn, you may enjoy this but otherwise, I’d say it’s a pass.

The print is a very old-school grindhouse- full of grain & damage, which of course enhances the cheap sleaziness of the whole thing, but this along with the constantly droning-on and bland stock music get’s old quick, oh for some sticky 70’s funk, or grimy light jazz!. On the extras front, all we get is around twenty-one minutes of hardcore porn loops from Impulse's 42nd street collection- this is ok, I guess if you like fairly run-of-the-mill porn loops.

The Girl In The Basket sounded like it had promise from its title, and the plot synopsis on the back- with one expecting some grimy and nasty 70’s roughness, but in reality, it’s just a fairly standard and not very creative/ inventive hardcore film, that features a prolonged threesome.
