Dosis Letalis - Righteous Indignation [Death Bed Tapes - 2020]Righteous Indignation severs up two structurally unpredictably examples of the walled noise form. It’s a release that finds this respected & prolific Serbian wall-maker showing off the more experimental/ at points jarring side of his sound. The release appeared in January of this year as either a C40 (sadly out of print), or digital download on US based noise & industrial label Death Bed Tapes. The plain black shelled cassette comes in a murky monochrome cover- this features on its front a skull & crossbones, and the release's title. Inside & on it's back we get black & white texts label shapes, which are made to look like pharmaceutical packaging. It came in an edition of ten copies, and as mentioned early these have now all gone.
Each of the tracks here slides in just under the twenty-minute mark, and are simply entitled “I” & “II”. The first sides track features a series of bounding-then-receding textures- we have a deep & rapid dragging roll, a slightly battering rip, and a subtly cut swooping hiss. These elements are laid out in a decidedly uneven/ stop-start manner, yet seemingly the textures themselves remain uninformed in their make-up. The whole thing creates a decidedly jarring & weird listening experiences, as ones mind keeps thinking it’s going to sudden lockdown into an even wall-flow, but it never does. Like the most effective & rewarding wall noise this track once more challenges your ear’s/ mind- as your not sure if the sequence of broken up textural attacks are becoming longer/ more detailed, or if they are remaining the same. Towards the end, I’m almost positive we do get a lengthier dwell in the textures, but I’m not totally certain of this.
Flipping over the tape & we, of course, have "II". Once again this is built around a set of broken & unpredictable textures- but its structure is slightly different & latter more complex, as we get sudden rapid runs- then breaks in its layout. The textures here are a rapidly & deep crumbling gallop, and chopped-up rips- as the track moves on I’m sure I’m also picking up a more subtle rolling line of rip too. Around the five minute mark, we get the introduction of an another more pronounced bounding/ slightly jerking rip- and this adds another appealing layer of submersion to the whole ‘wall’. Once again ones not sure if the sequences are getting longer or not, and the addition of the new texture nicely adds to that uncertainly.Towards the last quarter of the track, we get these neat sort of sudden swiping 'n' bound smaller rips added into the mix, which both pulls you in more & nicely tense things up too
Righteous Indignation once again shows Dosis Letalis as a highly skilful & talented wall-making. And it’s great the scene still has longer running projects like this one, who are still trying to do something slightly different/ changeling with-in the genre. Roger Batty
