A Wall Of Text - A Wall Of Text- Issue #1 [Self release - 2020]

A Wall of Text is a large format A4 zine focusing in on all things walled noise. This first issue runs twenty-four pages, and is color through-out with a great blend of interviews, articles, set-up chat, and wall noise-related art…and it really is something the scene has been needing for a long time.

The zine is put together by Dutchman Sven Kay- who has been involved with the euro wall noise for many years now- running labels, releasing work, and of course been passionate about walled noise in general- so the ideal person to do a zine focusing in on this at times most extreme, yet always captivating of sound genres.

Through-out the zine is very well laid out and designed with a very pro look about the production. As mentioned it’s color through-out, with a nice balance of different colored backdrops, photos of artists/ set-ups, and releases cover through-out.

Contents wise we have three interviews- one with Bose Mann of up & coming to label Nature Noise Wall, one with Thailand wallmaker Visarute V( Impermanence, Infect This Pink Sever!, and Akuochi-Onna), and one with respected US female noise maker Monica Isabel Sanchez(Tissa Mawartyassari)- each of these run one-to- three pages, and each are most interesting with Kay presenting good questions & getting good answers back. Otherwise, we wall noise manifestos, discussions about longer walls, set-up/ equipment chats, round-up of the recent stand out releases, and more- really if you’re a wall noise fan you’ll be in heaven.

It’s so great to see zines coming out like this- because for far too long there have been no zines for the walled noise genre- and as it’s now such a fairly wide-ranging scene-both in sub-genres & themes there really is loads to be written about, commented on, and analyzed. And to make it all the better  A Wall Of Text is such a nicely put together, produced & interesting zine- so if your into the wall noise zine, you need to get hold of a copy- and it looks like there may be a second issue in the pipe-line…I can’t wait!.
