Indecent Exposure appeared in 1981, and was directed by Gary Graver-who seemingly had rather a split film career. He’s most known to the general film audience as a Cinematographer, with two hundred twenty credits to his name- working at both ends of the cinematic spectrum going from trash meisters like Al Adamson-to- cinematic legends like Orson Wells. He also had one hundred and forty-four directorial credits- these largely saw him focusing in on both hard & softcore porn, though he did step out into other exploitation genres. During 1981 he helmed three other films as side from this one- going from the Redneck drama/ action film Texas Lighting, farm girl goes to the city for sexual encounters Peaches and Cream, and detective crime thriller meets porno Amanda by Night. As you’d expect from someone with Gaver's background Indecent Exposure is a very well shot film, with a good selection of different locations and settings- but equally he mangers to balance the sleaze and story with believable & relatable characterization too.

The film focuses in Tony Ross (Kerman) a New York photographer who pretends to be arty Italian snapper Antonio Rossini- he runs a photo studio with his girlfreind Lilah- played respected 70’s/ 80’s porn actress Veronica Hart- she is getting decidedly fed up with Tony hitting on & bedding his models. Brought into the mix we have his buddy Ted( Eric Edwards) whose in-between jobs & rather fed up with his mundane life, and June (Jesie St. James) his decidedly straight assistant, who is also getting fed up with Tony’s antics. The group go on a road trip with the ploy of taking pictures of unknown women for a possible advertising work- which is of course very thin pretence for Tony, and the at first sexually shy Ted to bed women. So we get a good selection of fleshy encounters- with either Tony & Ted one to one with one women, or later group action- we also have some women on women encounters too- it’s all very much done in a playful hardcore manner, with a good enough selection of different backdrops/ settings. In between these encounters we get the storyline playing out, which charts the tensions & up ‘n’ down relationship between the four. With the film moving towards its decidedly mysterious final stop at the mansion of a rich older woman, who very much has her own plans for the foursome.

Kerman is great in the lead role- managing to shift very well between comedic & dramatic performance, and of course he manages to perform well in the more flesh bound moments too. Hart is also very good as his frustrated girlfriend. Edwards & James are both good enough too- though at times Edwards felt a little wooden. As for the various women they encounter- these are largely just there for the sex, though they do have one or two lines. The film is sound tracked by a nice blend of funked-to-disco bound fare, with darts into easy listening/ dramatic soundtrack for the more straight drama led moments. The film comes in at the ninety seven-minute mark, which I guess is a little lengthier than a lot of porn fare- but it never drags with the well-shot hardcore scenes mixed evenly with the drama & light comedic elements of the film.

Moving onto this recently released dual Blu Ray & DVD release- both discs here are all-region, so pretty much where ever you are in the world you’ll be able to watch these. The new 2k scan of the film is as you’d expected from VS, great- with a good blend of bright & bold 80’s coloring, well-balanced flesh tones, and general good/ even picture balance. We don’t get any extras this time around, aside from an original trailer- which is a little disappointing, but I guess sometimes they just can’t get hold of folks involved in the film to interview.

With the release of Indecent Exposure, VS has once again mined the more approachable and story-led side of 1980’s porn. So if you're new to hardcore cinema, this would work as a good introduction- as it’s a well made, largely well-acted slice of sleaze with an involving story & a well-balanced pace.
