Tissa Mawartyassari/Hana Haruna - Split [ KV & GR Records - 2019]

From KV & GR Records here we have a pro pressed wall noise split, pulling together two slices of wall matter from US wall-makers- one is raging-yet- atmospheric, and other is dense yet more layer active. The CD release is presented in a DVD  case- with black, red & grey cover artwork- colorful oriental art CD face, and color card inlay card featuring a reproduction of postcard of an oriental stream train- so a very nicely presented wall noise release.

First up we have a track from female-fronted wall noise project Tissa Mawartyassari aka Texas-based Monica Isabel Sanchez. The tracks entitled “ The Signal”-  this opens with a fading in blend of muffled chop & earthy droning. At around the two-minute mark we move into a thicker mixture of set droning mids, choppy static grain roll, and muffled thinner jitter play. Together these create both a hectically incasing, yet moody & slightly uneasy ‘wall’. As the track progresses it feels like they may be very slight shifts in all three textures- taking in more grain pop & snap, blunt droning, and seared static play- though this could well be just a trick of the ‘wall’, and in reality, this track may remain very much set & fixed in its feel.

The other track here is from Portland Oregano based Hana Haruna- their track is entitled “Shinkansen Psyche”- here we find a set & constant ‘wall’ of choppy & skating noise, under this, we get a rather active, though largely subdued canvas of noise matter- these move between bubbling mids & highs, rattling junk textures, baying- yet- moody sweeps,  buried dialogue chatter, and even more harmonic almost ambient drifts. The ‘wall’ topping is not really anything special or creative, but with the under elements, the whole thing works well enough- as you get battered by the constant noise bay, but hooked in by the buried sound matter.

It’s always nice to see labels put out more pro looking & classy wall-noise release- as with most noise sub-genres the releases in the HNW are often crude &  homemade- all in all this is a good enough split with the both half-an-hour walls be worthy in their own right.
