Anonymous Masturbaudioum/Tissa Mawartyas - Morte Perversa [Ominous Recordings - 2020]Morte Perversa is a walled noise C30 split that brings together a track apiece from Swiss’s Anonymous Masturbaudioum, and USA’s Tissa Mawartyassari- with both tracks been splendid examples of masterfully made wall-craft. The release appeared in February of this year on Stockholm based Ominous Recordings- with the white shelled tape coming in a monochrome cover featuring a blurred pictured of slumped nude figure with a white plastic bag or pillow over its head. Unfortunately, as both projects on here are well thought of, the tape pretty much went out of print straight away- so one's only option is the digital download.
The tracks here are named "Morte Perversa Pt 1 & Pt 2"- and first out of the gate we have the Anonymous Masturbaudioum track. Here we find an extremely dense- yet-layered nuanced wall- it finds the following elements- a rumble, knock & rush static mesh, a distant pummelling low-end, and crisply circling hacks ‘n’ slices. The ‘wall’ felt akin to been trapped in a thin wooden garden shed- that’s been knocked over, and is been rained down on by a mix of soil, small rocks, and large clods of turf. As we’ve come to expect from this project the balancing of both the layers and the detail of the layers themselves is top-notch- all making for a great an example of encasing-yet- texturally rewarding wall matter.
Flip over & we have Tissa Mawartyassari track- here we have a more tensioned & taut example of wall craft. It’s built around a mixture of bothersome 'n' battering low end, which is topped with a layer of rattling & buffeting static grain. Both textures compliment each other nicely to creating a feeling of trying to tie down a vast canvas sail as a costal wind slow grows in power & strength- which is indicated by the subtle blurring of the two tones & there speeding up. Again it’s another very worthy & well-made example of wall-matter- though I’m not sure if it textures selected really thematically fit in with the first side’s track- but that’s just my take on it.
Really when you have two of the more skilful & respected names in the wall noise scene coming together you know that Morte Perversa is going to be a great split- I personally just felt that the tracks didn’t seem very connected, which of course they should be when they named parts 1 & 2.
