Dosis Letalis - The Culture Of Fear [Hellscape HN - 2018]The Culture of Fear is a C40/ digital release that highlights both sides of this Serbian walled noise project sound- moving seared & tight intensity, to more detailed & creavlity textured. This release appeared back in 2018, and is now sadly out of print in physical form- though it’s well worth tracking down in digital form, as each of the side long tracks are great- showing off the projects ability to pick 'n' build great textured 'walls'. The black labelled tape is presented in a single sided cover- this takes in a simple yet effective enough monochrome inversed picture of two grabbing hands, which of course nicely puts across the release state controlled themes.
The first side takes in “Fearmongering I”- here we find a very rapid & dense weave of rushing murky bass rumbles, blended with layers of hacking-to-splintering static grain. These are elements are fed together into a truly unstopped and encasing ‘wall’, that both rages & batters, yet at the some time appeals via it’s detailed map of textures, which quite often create effective audio trickery/ feeling of false shifting pattern-national.
The second track is “Fearmongering II”, and here we find a more nuanced & paired back take on 'wall' craft. As we have a slower rolling ‘n’ slightly poping bass drone- this edged by thinner sways of snap, hiss and jitter- all to creating this feeling of detailed & crafted roast, like staring into & getting lost in both the darting flames & white hot wood lengths of a bonfire
The Culture of Fear certainly stands as some of the best work I’ve heard from this project- as it really sees him playing to his talent as a sonic wall-maker. As I said really pity the tape version is long gone, so as a result either head here or here to check it & Download it!. Roger Batty
