Dosis Letalis/Renoffski - Split [Altar Of Waste - 2018]

Here’s a CDR wall-noise split bringing together four fifteen minute walls- we have the bass focused meets often galloping textural details of Dosis Letalis tracks, and the more roughly & grainy-necro-ness-meets smaller detail feast of the Renoffski tracks.

The CDR comes in a folded card stock sleeve- which on its front features a textured grey, off-white, and muddy canvas picture. And on its reverse we get minimal white texts against a plain black backdrop- this release appeared in an edition of 15 copies, and seemingly the label still has copies.

Those into the worldwide wall noise scene will have most certainly heard of Dosis Letalis- since 2015 this Serbian project has slowly but surely built up an impressive body of work- that’s managed to switch from more creatively textured wall craft, static studies & more seared ‘n’ thick wall-craft. Renoffski is lesser known- as it’s only put out around 10 or so releases since it started in 2017- this is one of the projects of Flanders based bleak noise & drone artist- solo work & Charles Razeur project.

The split is laid out two Dosis Letalis tracks, then two Runoffs tracks- so first up we have the Dosis Letalis ones, and first of these is “Titanium”.  This opener sees the bringing together of a slowly roasting low-end rumble & tight tumble, with a layer of constantly poping & snapping descent- the whole thing feels very focused & moody in it’s layered fire like atmosphere- with the tense bass roast working very nicely with the smaller grainy feasting keep you firmly held into the walls unfold. The second track is “Caput Mortumm”-  here we find a blunt & bleak bass tunnelling meeting a detailed scrape, snap & churning topping- this wall feels like your constantly tumbling and caught between to steady-yet- earthen milling stones, as they grind husky corn into to grain.

The first Renoffski is called “Carbon Black”- here we see a mixture a lose & less defined bassy tumble & knock,  edged with feasting grain seared & semi woozy static jitter. After the more streamlined Dosis Letalis tracks, we get a switch to the more organic, at-times roughshod & weathered take on wall matter. The next track is entitled “Violet”- here we get a wide rolling bass tone, meeting a selection squiggle, dart & scrape textures- there’s a nicely grim catacomb-like reverb the edges of this track that’s most enjoyable.

All in all, this is a worthy split with both parties presenting their own take on bass ‘n’ more grain bound wall-craft. Dosis Letalis tracks are as always top- knotch, and the Reneoffski tracks are pretty good too- so I look forward to checking out more of this project in the near future.
