Rolls-Royce Baby - Rolls-Royce Baby(DVD) [Full Moon Features - 2018]Here from Full Moon Features is a fully uncut DVD release of Rolls-Royce Baby. A near plot-less mid 70’s sleaze feast focusing in on Lina Romay- the queen of euro exploitation and one of Jess Franco’s main muses. Rolls-Royce Baby was the 32nd film directed by infamous Swiss exploration producer/ director Erwin C. Dietrich. Released in 1975 the film sees a small main cast of two- Romay, and late 70’s Franco favourite Eric Falk- joined by a few male & female euro sleaze fodder.
Having enjoyed the other recent reissue of Dietrich films on Full Moon - MadFoxs & The Women Of Inferno Island, and of course been a fan of Ms Romay work with Franco- I had high hopes for Rolls-Royce Baby. Sadly these were very much dashed, as basically what we have here is 88 minutes of rather bland 1970’s soft-core, with a few brief forays into hardcore. It’s just basically one scene after another of Romay either pleasuring her self or having sex with other men or women. The plot is really non- existent & paper thin as only bland porn can be- Romay plays a woman living in a large & grand house, and from time-to-time, she goes to a studio to get nude pictures taken. Around a quarter of the way through we get Falk dropped into the plot, first seeing him doing martial arts - then later, of course, having sex with Romay. Fairly soon she decides Falk should be her chauffeur- then they go out in the countryside having one sexual encounter after another with strangers.
Really there is little to redeem the film- the funky & sleazed 70’s soundtrack is passable if somewhat forgettable, the encounters & sleazy action are very predictable, and the lack of any real structure makes it dull. I’d say one encounter sticks out- due to is corn-ness & unbelievably set-up, where Romay gets picked up by two truck drivers- who each take turns with her, while the other watches & drives.
The release is region free DVD, and as 70’s pictures go the new print looks ok- though really there’s not much to gage it by as it’s mostly all flesh colours. There are no extras here aside from a trailer for the film, and a few trailers for Full Moons other sleazy bound releases.
I’m sorry to say I can’t really recommend Rolls-Royce Baby to anyone but Romay obsessives, and fans of bland euro 70’s soft-core. As there is really nothing more than here than flesh & sex, with none of the cheeky, campy & OTT charm of Dietrich other films present here. Roger Batty
