Nightmare Park - They’re Coming to Get you, Barbara, [Inner Demon - 0000]They’re Coming to Get you, Barbara, is of course, one of the iconic lines from genre-defining zombie classic Night Of The Living Dead. And here from Connecticut based Nightmare Park is a twenty minute wall noise tribute to the film- which sees the project offering up a single twenty minute shot of dense, unforgiving static battering. The release appears on Florida’s Inner Demon Records- in the form of a 3inch CDR, this the second release this label has put out of Nightmare Park- the first being the excellent 3inch boxset Box Of Teeth, from early on this year. The ink sampled CDR comes in a mini plastic slip sleeve- this features a single-sided cover, with a red paper inlay featuring the tracks download code. This release came in an edition of forty-two copies, and as of writing the label still, have copies available.
The track kicks straight in with an extremely thick & continual searing maelstrom of hacking meaty descents, grinding static jitters, and distant blunt billows. The wall perfectly fits the stark black & white tone of the film, and the whole thing very much has a continual feasting quality to it- which of course perfectly fits footage of grim gut munching from the zombies. As the track progresses it almost feels as if the layers a blurring & melding into each other, and at moments it feels like possible the whole thing is showering- but I think the reality is that this is fairly fixed & set example of wall-matter.
I rather enjoyed the Box of Teeth release, so I’m happy to report that this new release is up to that standard- offering up an effective slab of battering wall noise brutality, that’s deep in fittingly stark monochrome atmospherics. Roger Batty
