This Is What I Hear When You Talk - Untitled 00001 [Inner Demons - 2018]Untitled 00001 is the debut release from this Florida based project. It comes in the form of a 3inc CDR, which offers up a single twenty-minute slice of buffeting, grinding, and battering wall-matter. Behind This Is What I Hear When You Talk is Dan Fox, who has been active in the Florida noise scene since the early 2000¡¯s- been connected with projects such as FAIL, IF, FFI Digital and Glaive. He also runs the rather prolific noise/ experimental label Inner Demons that put this releases out.
The single 21-minute track featured here is entitled¡°PATCHOTRON_S0F0_FX70_¡Ö21¡±. I guess you¡¯d described what we have here as very hazed, almost muffled drone based take on HNW. The dense & ill-defined ¡®wall¡¯ is a blend of hovering droning low-end, sluggish juddering static, and slightly faster jittering bound roast. Over the tracks length, these layers are brought together to create a disorientating dense wash of sound- which at times almost goes towards complete white-out. Though that said there is certainly some subtle shift & ebb occurring through-out the track. The whole thing rather brought to mind what it¡¯s like when you zone-out for a few moments in everyday life, which of course is most fitting for the projects name- as I¡¯m sure we¡¯ve all had moments when talking to someone, and your mind is elsewhere¡well this is that elsewhere, but for twenty-one minutes.
If you enjoy the place where hazed drone-meets walled noise I think you¡¯ll get something out of this release. It¡¯s certainly a worthy debut release, and I look forward to seeing how the projects sound develops on future releases. Roger Batty
